Frequently asked questions

  • Do I need a referral from my GP?

No, You don’t require a referral from your GP to attend appointments, it is optional and can assist with managing the costs associated with the sessions. You can instead pay for sessions privately or alternatively use your private health insurance to aid the cost of sessions.

  • How will I know if I’m eligible for Medicare rebates?

You will need to discuss your eligibility with your General Practitioner. If you are eligible for a Mental health treatment plan, you will be entitled to a Medicare rebate which can assist with the costs associated with your psychology treatment. Feel free to call our team if you are unsure about your eligibility for a Mental Health Treatment Plan.

  • What is the duration of a standard appointment?

Sessions are 50 minutes duration. We can offer extended sessions on request for 90 minutes or longer, however these will be charged at a higher rate than a 50 minute session. Please talk to your Psychologist to explore potential benefits regarding extended sessions.

  • Will sessions be confidential?

Sessions are confidential between you and your Psychologist, however there are some situations where your Psychologist might need to talk to other people regarding your care for example other members of your treating team i.e. your General Practitioner. Confidentiality will be discussed at the initial session and throughout treatment as needed so that you can clarify any concerns you might have.

  • How long will treatment take?

Your Psychologist will discuss your treatment options and expected length of treatment during your sessions.

  • Do you have a cancellation policy?

As sessions are in high demand we require atleast 48 hours notice if you need to cancel an appointment. If you cancel an appointment with less than 48 hours notice a cancellation fee of 100% of the cost of the session will be charged.

If you cancel the day of your session or fail to attend your booked appointment such as forgetting about your session the full fee of the session will be charged. We can offer Telehealth appointments as an alternative if you are too unwell to attend the clinic in person.

  • Can I use my private health to reduce my out of pocket costs?

You aren’t able to claim from your private health and Medicare at the same time but generally it is more cost effective to use your Medicare Mental Health Treatment Plan referral first for up to 10 sessions and then access your private health funds if you require any additional sessions. It’s best to check with your private health insurer to make sure that you are able to claim private health insurance for psychology sessions. Not all private health insurance covers psychology as an extra. We can provide an invoice for you to claim with your private health insurer directly after your session.

  • Where is best parking?

There is free 2 hour parking on site for clients. There is also ample on street parking in the area, however we encourage you to leave a little bit of extra time to find a park.

  • Why are the clinical psychologist fees higher?

Clinical Psychologists have a higher fee rate due to being able to offer you a higher Medicare rebate as they have completed additional training.

  • Does your team offer Telehealth appointments?

Yes, we use a secure platform that is compliant with Australian health Practitioner standards. Telehealth appointments are easy alternative to in person appointments. You do not have to download any software or apps, you simply click on the link that is sent to your email address prior your appointment and we will collect you in the virtual waiting room- just like a session in the clinic! We also offer phone consultations if you do not have access to a smart phone, or laptop for a Telehealth appointment.

Our software is secure for communication between clients and our team and it is one of the platforms recommended by the Australian Psychological Society.

Toward the end of your session, your Psychologist will re-book your next appointment.

  • What is a Telehealth appointment?

A telehealth appointment is just like a regular face to face appointment, only your psychologist you will be talking and seeing will be meeting you on a computer. We recommend preparing for your Telehealth appointment by having a pen and paper, water, tissues, a reliable internet connection, an electronic device such as a laptop or iPad/tablet and headphones.

Appointments are paid for prior to the appointment via direct deposit. Please use the reference number on your invoice and not your name to pay the appointment fee.

  • How do I best prepare for Telehealth appointments?

    • Use a computer or ipad/tablet with a camera rather than a phone if possible as the screen is larger and easier to see one another

    • Have reliable internet at home, for example internet that would normally allow you to watch a youtube video or facetime or Skype with friends

    • Use headphones for extra privacy

    • Dial in from a private place and ask any housemates or family members not to enter your room/office when you are dialing in to avoid any distractions. We have found putting a note on your office door or bedroom door stating you are on a call can be helpful.

    • Dial in 5 minutes before your appointment to check the link is working and enter the telehealth portal ad take a moment to get comfortable before your session commences

    • Keep a pen and paper handy for notes and think of any questions you would like to ask beforehand

    • Fill up your drink bottle or a glass of water to ensure you can stay refreshed throughout your appointment

    • Problem solve any possible distractions prior to your appointment, such as housemates, family members or partners, kids and pets
